Shanghai rubber futures rise by 5 pct limit(Adds quote, background)Published: 04 Feb 2009 18:54:53 PST<p class="authorInfor"]Author: Rujun Shen,Jacqueline Wong<br /]</p]<P]SHANGHAI, Feb 4 (Reuters) - The key Shanghai May rubber futures contract <SNRK9> rose by its 5 percent daily limit to 13,405 yuan per tonne on Wednesday afternoon, amid speculation the government would buy natural rubber for the state reserves.</P]<P]A number of traders said the purchase plan had not been confirmed, although one official at a large rubber producer in China said a final decision would be made soon.</P]<P]Industry sources and traders said last month that the government would buy up to 50,000 tonnes of rubber for the state reserves after the Lunar New Year holiday.</P]<P]"The market is responding to it, but I have not heard anything concrete on the purchase," said a Shanghai-based trader.</P]<P]Chinese buyers have been actively seeking natural rubber in the international market after the week-long holiday.
